sunny days
Everyone hopes for sunny days at the beach. I actually don't even go to the beach itself that much. Walks to town, crafts on the deck, a newspaper to linger over, coffee pot then lemonade pitcher, books on the lounge. Suppose I could be in a field in the midwest- which was my beach growing up, but the sound of the ocean, the pace of life makes the beach so appealing. Everyone is always happy there. Doing nothing at all, just enjoying the sun and the freedom to be lazy.
When the kids are there, I do drag a chair into the sand where I sit entirely under our ancient rusty umbrella, the big watermelon slice now our personal family marker. Can't even concentrate on a book for long. Flipping through magazines, group crossword puzzling, people watching, shell collecting, talking, sea-gazing, rearranging that sliver of shade. And loving the busy-ness and giggles of children running in and out of the water- outwitting the tide.

Waaa, it is and will be pouring rain. Well enjoy the sun for me. Clarice-who can see the beach through the rain

ahhh! BLISS! I think you described my summer exactly. Something about just being within ear-shot of the waves crashing and the sea birds calling soothes every cell in my body. I am lulled into its primordial rhythm and it brings me such BALANCE. I am one who could sit, all day, everyday, on the beach watching the people, birds, dolphins, waves....It is my HOME. We play cards and dominoes, we take long walks and bike rides, we read countless books and magazines, we play endless hours of Frisbee with the dog, we poke in and out of local shops and restaurants....BLISS!
I am sad that soon I must go back to the desert...but take solace that I will be back next year! :-)

oooooh, great summery post! Makes me want to pack up and head for the beach! I guess the scariest animal I have to face there (IF I stay OUT of the water) is a seagull with great aim...
Beautiful post Charlotte! And I love your new "summery/beachy" banner...so pretty and fresh.
