green days and a good book

1birdbath4x

It's hot. Sprinklers, straw hats, early morning walks and big cushioned lawn chairs for reading.

Loving Frank: A Novel

This week I pre-ordered Loving Frank by Nancy Horan, my neighborhood friend from Oak Park. Over the past seven years she has written this extraordinary and challenging novel about the love affair between Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Cheney-- an Oak Park legend. We are all so happy for Nancy, such a smart, gifted writer, a wonderful friend. The advance praise and her success is truly deserved. Seeing her author portrait in the Times review, and listening to her interview on NPR Morning Edition then watching another on the website gave me goosebumps. Loving Frank ships August 7. Can't wait to have it here! (edit- Nancy just directed to me to this review and article. My favorite so far!)

What a beautiful photo!

The info about Frank Lloyd Wright... I had no idea... and the tragic end made me gasp. I'll look forward to reading this book very much!!

Hi, Charlotte! I've really enjoyed reading your blog this summer! Thanks for the inspiration!

And at last after weeks and weeks of rain it's hot here in the UK.

Sounds intriguing and pageturning. I added it to my amazon wishlist.

Thank you for rec. the book. I read all the sites, all the special links, and still have some goosebumps left. What a interesting story she scraped out of forgotten memories and places. I so admire her dedication. What is it with architects? Thanks again.

wowwee- shes your friend?! I was so excited to get the book once I learned it was out from listening to her interview on NPR. Sounds fascinating. Gonna have to pre-order that one as well.
I was born in Park Forest in Chicago... .still have family in the Palos Heights area.

Charlotte,
I was just talking to my husband about this book as he grew up in Oak Park and he had never heard this before.
We'll be ordering the book. Thanks for sharing.

This looks like a really good read -- thanks for the heads-up. I'll be ordering, too!
