lost and found
Over Thanksgiving when Mo was home, it got super cold. Colder than her jacket could handle. Going out one night she asked if she could wear my black dress coat. Sure- I wasn't going anywhere, and I was flattered that she thought my coat was even remotely trendy enough to be seen in. Somehow, that coat never came back home. It was about a week before I realized as much and when asked- already back at school, she was completely unaware that it wasn't here. She thought someone may have picked it up at a party and worn it home. Hmmmm. Imagine our discussion about what she wore home.
It has not turned up.
But today while out looking for felt-able wools, I found this. Sage green, hand-tailored, beautifully lined, deep pockets, perfect condition, 24.99 at Salvation Army. O, and a sweet, sweet label that just makes me not miss that old coat so much.
Meet my new dress coat, so safely vintage/old lady that she will never even consider it. And if she does, I'm pretty sure she'll be old enough to have the good sense to wear it home again. xoC
{And for a totally bizarre note on this amazing thrifted discovery, check out what my lovely friend, Rebecca found in her part of the world, months ago! I only saw-touched-tried this one coat off the rack of 50. Did I instantly love it because....?}

It's perfect and lovely and will look wonderful on you, I can tell! Great find Charlotte! (but I really do hate it when our girls do those kinds of things. grr!)

Gotta love those thrift shops, I always find something cool at my local haunts..
I really like the color of your new/old coat .
wear it in good health

You lucky duck Charlotte! First off, I love sage green. Secondly, 100% cashmere - WAHOO!!! Third, is that hand stitching I see around the lapel? I love hand stitching, so elegant. What a great find. I'm so envious, I dream of finding something I can felt and there's not a piece of wool anything to be found in Los Angeles thrift stores, let alone something marvelous.
Enjoy!

I LOVE that color---great score but don't be too sure she won't like it because it's "vintage"!!

It's too bad your old coat went missing (perhaps it's with my dress coat living the high life, I can't find mine either!), but what a lovely replacement coat! I love that calm, warm color.

I love your coat, what a great find.
When I saw the label I was reminded that I have a silver label/plate with my name on it,that goes inside a coat...one would move it from coat to coat as one got a new one...this was a custom in Iceland...did they have that here in the US
Now I feel that I must look for that silver label/plate...I wonder where it is ?

Cahsmere and a vintage green? That must feel like heaven! It certainly looks like a bit of heaven! Lucky girl you are!

I really can spell Cashmere I just can't type it! (:

I had to laugh out loud at this. Mo's like, "Hmmm? Wha?"
Serendipitous, however. This one's a be-yooot.

Very lovely coat - what a great find. I have a similar one in camel - had it years, never dates as it's classic. Shall wear it today as it's chilly here!
Loved the House Wren story and illustrations - my Carolina Wren has been coming to sleep under my porch every night for 3 months now - amazing!

Mo will borrow it. I'm sure of that...it's gorgeous! My Jess would borrow it for sure! Great find. Excellent!

Oh my. It is the kind of coat that would make you feel like a princess, turn gray days brighter, and when you are feeling blue, just putting it on and going no where makes you happy. So glad you found each other. Cheers.

Oh, I love that coat!!! It's lovely, what a great color.
My friend and I adore hitting thrift stores together and she recently bought a vintage camelhair coat that came from Nordstroms Minneapolis, where she's from (we're in Arkansas!).
We are also playing our part in preparing the new generation. She has a two year old daughter who loves to "play" thrift store. Somebody has to be me and she plays the mommy. She tells everyone to "look around," and then doles out "money" when it's time to go.

Love the story--reminds me of the time our teenage daughter went to an outdoor concert and borrowed her father's rain poncho which never made it back home. Perhaps your coat and his poncho are cohabitating somewhere out there. Your "new" coat is lovely. I bought a nice spring coat at our thrift shop and it is giving me one more reason to look forward to spring!

Charlotte, that is soooo mind blowing and amazing about Rebecca's coat!!! It looks like it's identical. It is indeed a small (crafty) world! :)

That's a beautiful coat. I think it's naive of you to think your daughter will not want to borrow it, I would keep yur eyes wide open!!
I miss thrifting, I used to be very good at it. Hmmm, I am feeling inspired.

Oh my! I LOVE that! And realize that I left my local thrift without a glance at the coats. Maybe the thrift fairy is leaving cashmere for we thrifty souls? A return trip may be in order!

Lovely vintage coat! Great color! I love anything green! Aren't great finds the best?!!

Love your vintage find and how 'twilightzoney' that Rebecca also found one so similar.

Oh that coat looks like a dream!! I am sure it looks absolutely magical on you and compliments your eyes quite nicely! Look out though...when I was in college I actually wore a MENS vintage overcoat. It was my very fav. I wore it with a huge rhinestone pin, a scarf and my amazingly cool Madonna inspired gloves. :)

You are SO willing that to me! Duh... green, cashmere, vintage - you had better hide when I come to visit!

I know how it goes-daughters "borrowing" clothes and such. Love the coat. Only problem for me would be, one of my girls would love it and borrow it too.

Gorgeous coat...if the other were any better sorry to hear its gone...but this one is a jewel! Don't let her wear it!

At a Christmas party a few years back, we all left our boots in the vestibule and somehow, someone wore mine home by mistake. I did track them down over the weekend, but the next year I noticed people left mittens sticking our of their boots or clothes pegs clipping them together! I doubt very much this kind of thing happens at alcohol free fetes!

Lovely old cashmere coats. How beautiful. What a find. I'm heading over to Goodwill today but chances are I won't find anything this lovely.

Sage green and cashmere! What a winning combp. Congrats on your find. And I'll bet it doesn't show cat hair! Woo-hoo!

Nice coat! I was fortunate enough to inherit a similar coat (dress length, black, cashmere wool) from my husband's grandmother. Evidently I was the only person in the family short enough to wear it. I've never been so happy to have married into a tall family! ;-)

What a great coat. Aren't old things some of the best things?

I didn't even have to read the part of your post to start thinking about Rebecca's coat!
