In December, Diane and I hosted a blog shower for Amy and Rich Powers. They had just announced their plans to become foster parents and like anyone who knows Amy, we were so excited for her. Well, the world's cutest room is ready- full of sweet, thoughtful, handmade, loving, colorful, generous gifts from those of you who asked to join in. Yesterday they were certified to foster parent and today Amy posted that they have a one-year-old in their midst! Hooray! for Amy and Rich, for that little guy and for any other child who will get a chance to be happy in their loving home. Good, good news.
That's the papier mache clock I made for them- from a pizza boxtop one snowy, Sunday morning. I took photos as I worked and will try to post about it. Can't even describe the thrill it gave me to make that clock. Mo was home and helped me- beginning with the design which is based on a marker drawing she made when she was 4. (You can see it on page 85 of Mothers and Daughters At Home.) I love that drawing so, so much, the naive charm and brilliance of her happy smiley face sun/flower. Spent the whole day fussing with the construction, the layers and just enjoying the slow pace of the project, thinking of Amy and Rich and everything ahead. Ah, little ones! When I looked at their darling room with the rolling hillsides and adorable houses, I thought it needed something in the sky. So here it is- in their room, smiling on that new Little Mr. Sunshine sitting there watching the Wiggles with sweet Amy and Rich. Yay!
Tomorrow I'm off to Atlanta for the gift show. Meetings with clients and wandering the labyrinth of booths and showrooms. Hoping your weekend is sunny and bright, but if not, maybe get out a pizza box (FedEx boxes work too), cut it up, play with paint and paper. Can't help but have fun with that- really, take a chance, make your own sunshine. xoC
