at the ballet

What a weekend this was. Neko Case was beyond fabulous Friday night. Her story is a wild one and it comes through in her lyrics some, but even if you didn't know what she was singing about, her voice is so rich and remarkable- you don't need more than that. Though there is so much more because the band is equally amazing. Pedal steel guitar always gets me, old Jerry fan that I am.
Changing gears totally, yesterday my friend, Debbie took me to the ballet. Lincoln Center on another bright winter afternoon. Out of those old jeans, into that new dress coat.
Before the performance we attended a subscribers' reception in a little room. One of the dancers came out to tell us what the three different dances entailed. His friend and fellow dancer was about to debut as a principal in Prodigal Son- which he did with a memorable performance. Knowing what this meant for him made it even more exciting to watch. The choreography, sets and story were so colorful for that piece, more than enough to remind you what the power of dance theater achieves. Long, long ago I was a dancer, not very good but determined for awhile to be so. I know just enough to think I recognize the remarkable form, impossible fouetté turns, perfect grand jeté leaps, exquisite choreography.
And of course, the hall, the architecture of Lincoln Center. Another grand performance to admire.
The magic of New York. Here I am today- back into the old jeans and studio chair, though a little bit different too. Inspiration, daydreams, all singing and leaping about together. xoC

Thank you so much for taking me to Lincoln Center. I needed to get out of the house and I can think of nothing better than the ballet! The interior shots are fabulous but for some reason I have never been a big fan of the exterior architecture. Perhaps because during the '70's there seemed to be a million midwest office buildings constructed with those arches.

I have never been to NYC before, but as luck would have it, my son and his wife are moving there ... on Friday! Seeing your pictures and knowing that it can all be part of future visits makes the distance a little more bearable.

ahh Lincoln Center! I was never a big ballet fan, I loved going to the Met to see Opera and wish I could be there all the time. I love the new header so cute, how do you find these things to change it to?

What an awesome building - I remember it from that scene in 'Moonstruck' with Nick Cage and Cher (v.romantic). Now I've seen it in your post I would LOVE to visit it someday! the interior is fantastic - also in knee worn jeans in my studio chair, rain and logpile outside - seems a far cry from all that Cultcha (to be said in Cockney accent!). Great header too. Cx

I live in Brooklyn, so Lincoln Center is just a "hop~skip~jump" away for me. I've been to a few ballets, but I love the opera the best. Thanks for the pictures --I never remember to take my camera along.
I'm enjoying your blog very much -- I love all the creativity you share.
