a day for ducks
Not so much stomping around town today admiring signs of spring. The wetness has us hemmed in with black, gritty puddles that ripple when the wind blows across the tops. Our very own Lake Lyons appears overnight and hosts ducks paddling noisily as though it were a blow-up wading pool. It's just a dip in the yard that fills up with rainwater, but I wonder how they know to stop by.
This image is from Wave Hill in the Bronx. Erin and I went one day when the skies were a gloomy grey. Being in the greenhouse was like a spring spa, the dark sky a perfect contrast to so much green. It was even cozy in a strange way. I liked the cactus room, an arid bookend to the dome at the other end full of ferns and tropicals. When the girls were little we had a conservatory near our house in Oak Park. It was a small glass building just right for neighborhood visitors. Easy destination for a puddle walk- bring a notebook and pencil to draw the leaves and stems.
Or the delighted, quacking ducks.

oh...how i love the smell of a greenhouse! there is such peace and tranquility there.
blessings,
danielle

I've always wanted to visit Wave Hill. I bet it was lovely to visit even on a cloudy day.
