spring cleaning

1dshes

Bags packed again. We're heading off for the weekend to visit Mo at college for parents' weekend.

But if you are thinking about cleaning around the house Saturday or Sunday, add this one to the list. ** Pull the refrigerator out and vacuum the coils from behind the thing. You know, where the wall is, where no one ever looks.

It's not just where you see the dirt...ooooooooo, really? It's where the last few years of disgusting stuff has decided to make a landing, settle in, happily multiplying in darkness. Until one day, the filter and coils are so covered with ick that the thing stops running. Got my attention now.

So, don't wait. Get back there while you still have a chance.

Most expensive and embarassing housecleaning ever. Argghhh.

See you Monday.

Poor dear! The same thing happened to me just a few months ago but since it happened over the weekend, we emptied it, pulled it out and cleaned to be ready for the repair man on Monday. On a whim, I plugged it back in after a couple hours. You guessed it! It worked! ((hugs)) Rosie

Oh ouch - I've had that very thing happen! Another embarrassing never-seen-until-the-repairman-comes is under the stove. There can be all manner of horrid things under there.

I remember, when I had my first apartment, I was given three sets of dishes by mom (who is a dish-set hoarder!)...I don't think I used any of them on more than on occasion; I was a devout paper plate/plastic utensil user (that cleaning up issue!)
...now my husband does the dishes.

Have a great weekend...
Love.

Actually, I have found that as soon as I give a good cleaning to an appliance that is working just fine, it STOPS RUNNING. So I avoid cleaning whenever possible- to SAVE on those expensive repair bills. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.....

We thought that our "new" model (about 10 years old now) had a new system because the entire back was closed. To our dismay -- the compressor is clunking and about to die because the unvacuumed coils were actually underneath!

Oh, great tip, Charlotte! You need to come by and add this to my Spring Fluffing post. This is a good one, we would always rather fluff the pretty stuff but there is some nasty yucky cleaning to do behind those refrigerators!

Four moves in the Army taught me to adjust to this stranger-catching-me-with-dirty-corners horror! I still cringe a little when a stranger has to move things in my house...
