parade season
Yesterday was the 125th anniversary celebration of Dobbs Ferry's volunteer fire department. The first parade of the season- one of my favorite things about summer. And of course, I love seeing our girl out there with her department and a dozen others from the rivertowns. It goes by so fast, too much to take in and snapshots don't really capture the whole experience. It needs a soundtrack, the emotional rhythm of the parade- horns, drums, bagpipes, callers, applause for the departments as they march by and the voices of children excitedly announcing the next flashing truck.
Looking forward to next weekend and another hometown parade. Maybe I'll keep my camera stowed and simply enjoy another chance to crowd onto the sidewalk, make some noise and respectfully celebrate our everyday heroes.

When your sweet baby girl was born did you ever imagine her as a firefighter?! Isn't it amazing to watch our children grow?
-And congrats on the book success!

Your parade looks like a lot of fun! The joys of growing up in a small community. Your "little girl" looks terrific in her firefighter gear! I bet you are one proud mama!

Love the parades! We drove up and down 9 yesterday, intent on attending all the cool fairs - Riverfest, Shadfest, etc., but managed to time our arrival with the pouring rain. Feel so badly for all the event organizers!

Wow, your daughter is very determined and brave! Good for her for getting into an occupation like firefighting and sticking with it! I love the picture of her on the link you posted, the one in the snow, it shows perfect emotion.
