Some of you are still snowed in, others are wishing they were. No matter where we are, it's a good time to hunker down and take it easy. I'm itching to do something crafty- really need to be restored in the way that handwork does that for me.
I ran across this snowman box (an old prototype that didn't make the cut) and think it might be a good one for this in-between week. You made your dollhouse, right? And the clock? And a bunch of plates? Okay, then- let's move on.
Somewhere long ago I discovered one of those boxes of foil light reflectors. See one of them up there? All gold and shiny, begging for something to fill the middle. So I crafted a mini-snowman from papier mache pulp. A tallish lump, maybe 2" - very crudely shaped, but you know, it doesn't take much to suggest a snowman. I stuck a teensy twig into his face for a nose and let him dry. Then I painted him white and used a toothpick to paint on eyes and a mouth. I made a hat from flowery sequins secured with straight pins and added some glitter. A sparkle stem twisted around the base added just that little extra something. Glued to a silver, paper giftbox on top of the foil petals, it's all finished. Super simple. Several of these in different sizes on different levels with votives in between would look mighty nice- on those long winter nights by the fire or at the table.
For New Year's, you could even ask your friends to slosh through the snow for crafts and chili. Champagne optional (depending upon the degree of sloshing). That sounds like fun to me anyway. Happy crafting in 2008 slipping and sliding right on into 2009! xoC
